We finished eating dinner when we received a call at 6:40 pm that Elder Bindrup had been hit by a taxi while riding his bike. His zone leaders, Elder Eriksen and Elder East, brought Elder Bindrup and his companion, Elder Kirby, to the mission home. They also had Elder Madhuma, an stranded elder trying to get to his mission in Barbados. He had come through Ethiopia to Johannesburg and was denied entrance into Germany before continuing on to Barbados. They ended up picking him up twice and delivering him twice. Elder Madhuma spent two weeks trying to arrive at his mission.
They all left and President Leavitt and I took Elder Bindrup to the ER at Life Flora Hospital to get checked out and bandaged up, to receive antibiotics, medicine and bandaging materials. The taxi his his thigh where his phone was in his pocket. The phone screen was smashed and he received a deep bruise. He landed on his palms, arm, knee and shoulder which had varying degrees of scrapes. A member had cleaned his palms of the embedded rocks and debris and put medicine on as a first step. He was further taken care of at the hospital and properly bandaged.
The doctor said Elder Bindrup wasn't to use his leg for a few days other than a little walking. Elder Kirby had done a great job of packing a bag filled with everything Elder Bindrup would need for a few days.
Elder Bindrup spent the night at the mission home. We dropped him off at the office the next morning before driving to flats for a day of interviews and training and staying in Klerksdorp overnight to do more interviews on Saturday. Elder Bindrup stayed with the office staff until joining his companion on Saturday night.
Elder Madhuma, Elder Eriksen, Elder East Our zone leaders were happy to have Elder Madhuma serve with them as a male present while he stayed with them. |
