2018 July 30 Elder Nau Appendectomy

Elder Nau came from the Joburg MTC into our mission on 26 June 2018. Since then, as he was walking along, stepped on a buried security fence spike which went through his shoe and sock into his foot (his foot recovered with no infection or scar); got hit by a car while riding his bike down a hill, sustaining a scrap on his elbow and hand and a bruised thigh; and a few days later spent a few days in the hospital on pain killers and antibiotics, ending with having his appendix removed on Monday, 30 July 2018. He was released on Tuesday and is recovering at the mission home.

Sister Leavitt is happy to note that Elder Nau is the oldest of eight children--the youngest being the only girl, and has taken all these traumatic events in stride with patience and a pleasant attitude. Let's pray that after he recovers, he can sail smoothly through his mission without getting hurt again.

Elder Galbraith, ZL, brings Elder Nau to Life Flora Hospital on Friday evening as President & Sister Leavitt are in Swaziland.

2018 July 28-29 Mbabane Swaziland District Conference

28-29 July 2018 Mbabane Swaziland District Conference

On Saturday, President and Sister Leavitt went on visits with the District Leaders and area seventy Elder Jacques van Reenen and his wife Christine, participated in leadership training meetings and the adult conference session.

After the adult conference session, President Leavitt and Elder van Reenen visited these Elders at their flat.

How many missionaries does it take to change a light?
Apparently four to watch and help as Elder van Reenen shows them how it is done.

On Sunday we enjoyed participating in the Mbabane Swaziland District Conference from 10-12 pm. After the wrap up meeting, and meeting with a family, President Leavitt met with about 50 YSAs in the chapel until 2:15 pm.

We were greeted outside the Mbabane Chapel Sunday morning by 8 of our wonderful 12 Swaziland Elders. The other four arrived soon after while we were greeting people.

After the district conference, these Young Single Adults pictured below waited for over an hour to meet with President Leavitt for an hour. First he had a conference wrap-up meeting with Elder van Reenen and the other leaders and also met briefly with a family from which some are being baptized next week.

We love meeting with them and helping them plan next steps. President Leavitt informed them that his application to form a YSA Branch in Swaziland wasn't approved at this time. YSAs need to continue to serve well in their individual six branches.

So for now, the next step is to form a YSA Activity Committee and bring the YSAs together on a consistent basis. Hopefully plentiful activities will bring the YSAs together so they can meet and get to know each other, form eternal marriages and have and raise strong families in the gospel. This will help grow the Mbabane Swaziland District into the Mbabane Swaziland Stake.

4 August 2018, 10:30 am (picture taken), YSAs had a hike and a braai that was announced at the above meeting and elsewhere.

2018 July 5-6, 10-12, 18-19, 24 Interview Training

This interview cycle, President Leavitt and I drove to different chapels each day. We had very full days of training and interviewing. Most of the Elders were to try coming to their interview without using their car. We are trying to prepare for our no car week the last full week of July. The Elders started early to try new transport methods. Sometimes it took a very long time to arrive and sometimes it was quicker than anticipated. But I enjoyed my training time with them while they waited for their interview time and until their traveling companions were also finished. I  brought crackers, cut cheese sticks, cookies and KFC Chicken Twisters for them to enjoy when we had a break.

The training I presented was on finding (PMG chapter 9, recent training from President Hamilton, President Koch, President Clayton, & two bible videos).

Forgive me for the lack of photos. I was so engaged that I usually didn't take them.

Amazingly, the only missionary who missed being interviewed with the mid-transfer happening was Elder Dmitri. President Leavitt interviewed him on MLC day, 1 August 2018.
