2018 August 6 Departing Elders

On Monday, departing missionaries are brought each hour to the mission home by their companion and another companionship the staying companion is joining until Tuesday. They help weigh bags outside, come into the mission home, take the suitcases downstairs for the departing missionary to claim a bunk bed. They eat and visit before the three extra depart to finish their preparation day.

The departing missionary has his hour-long departing interview with President Leavitt. He also makes a memory page for Sister Leavitt. He can visit with others, sign journals, and readjust his packed suitcases if needed. When there is time and the weather is good, the ping pong table is set up outside.

When the interviews have concluded, dinner is served. After dinner, we gather in the front room for pictures and to have a farewell meeting. It is a wonderful evening of expressing special experiences and testimony. Sister Leavitt and President Leavitt each present their parts and we close as we have opened with a song and prayer. We retire to bed. (Elder Nau is recovering at the mission home from an appendectomy during his first transfer. He will continue his mission. Elder Blackburn is the only departing young missionary next transfer and has been Elder Rozendo's trainer and only companion this transfer. Elder Rozendo has served valiantly for one transfer in much pain and is returning home to Brazil. Elder Bartice's visa expires the end of August. The others are happy to be going home.)
