5 May 2018 Elder Brent H. Nielsen, Special Conference

Elder & Sister Nielsen visited our missionaries on Saturday, 2 May 2018, at the Roodepoort Chapel from 1-3 pm. Elder Nielsen is the director of the general LDS missionary department in Salt Lake City. We were so excited to have them visit us and grateful for the messages they shared.

A few of the things Sister Nielsen talked about:
Sister Nielsen talked about the Nielsen family and what the Nielsen family did together that made them each a Nielsen. And then their children started marrying people who weren't Nielsens and didn't enjoy the same bonding activities. The Dilemma--can Nielsens be diverse?

Sister Nielsen then gave examples from their family of how they learned to love others the way they are. One example: Nielsens have never been runners. But a daughter-in-law runs marathons. Now many of the Nielsens have participated in races.

One more example from her talk: They received a letter from their son's mission companion telling them how their son was his favorite companion. Their son said, "I had decided that my companion was on the same team as me. So, I stopped criticizing him. He is just like me. He is trying to contribute to this mission the same as I am."
Principle of Unity: John 17:11: Jesus Christ prays for his 12 Disciples, for converts to be one with us.

A few of the things from Elder Nielsen:
Elder Nielsen talked about burdens being a good thing. Burdens can become light. We have the key. We can be happy if we submit.

Elder Nielsen talked about seeking to obtain the word, being a good example, and sharing the gospel with others. Teach by the Spirit. Your job is to connect them to Heaven so the Holy Ghost can teach them. Help investigators understand the atonement of Jesus Christ. Issue invitations all the time. Have them keep commitments. They need to act. They need to change and repent. Don't look back like Lot's wife. Move forward after repenting.

Many are kept from the truth because they know not where to find it. Pray and follow the Spirit to go find people who are seeking.
