2018 Dec-12 to 2019 Jan 12 Interviews & Training

Our interview/training cycle was from 12 December 2018 until 12 January 2019. We had some mini transfers, MLC and 3 zone conferences in between.

While the missionaries went in and out to their interviews with President Leavitt, I trained the missionaries on being Successful Missionaries from Preach My Gospel, pp. 10-11.

We started out watching Samuel and the Star and talked after. Did Samuel think he was a successful missionary? Why? ...and other questions and thoughts.

Then we read out of PMG and discussed in detail the contents of the paragraphs in this section. On each bullet point, the missionaries had to find and tell a scripture story, church history story or one from their own proselyting experiences that exemplified each bullet point.

We found and looked up many scriptures and read 1-3 verses of the example. I put out a red cup with each bullet point written on it.

After we were all done, we reviewed some of the traits of being a successful missionary by each elder picking up a red cup and reading. Now some of the cups had a piece of chocolate underneath.

We talked about how their thinking changed after someone picked a cup with candy under it. I talked about a resource to meet the demands of life as portrayed on the balance scale pictured on pages 8-9 of Adjusting to Missionary Life is to Change How We Think.

Each elder has the power to change his thinking--by their own thoughts or being influenced by Heavenly Father through the Holy Ghost or by worldly influences--many times instigated by Lucifer. As time permitted, we talked about some scripture examples. It was an enlightening activity.

I dive into the training and forget to take pictures. So, I need the elders to remind me--which sometimes they do.
